Jill Sakai is the Managing Editor at Science News Explores. She is a science writer and editor based in Madison, Wisc. She earned a Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of Wisconsin–Madison watching zebrafish optic nerves grow, before embarking on a AAAS Mass Media Fellowship and making the leap to science writing. She is also a senior editor at The Open Notebook and an active member of the National Association of Science Writers. When not writing, she enjoys hiking, climbing and playing ultimate frisbee, violin and piano (though not simultaneously).
